My Running Story:

I haven’t always been an endurance athlete. In fact, for most of my youth the idea of running sounded awful and the thought that it could be “fun” seemed ludicrous!

“I’m a terrible runner!”

“Running is the punishment they use in real sports.”

“I hate running.”

If you regularly use these phrases, you are not alone.

Back when I was in my teens and 20’s these were my most commonly used phrases when it came to running. I claimed that running was the worst and I was the worst at it…. until the year I turned 27. A friend finally convinced me to train with her for a 10K. Before then, I hadn’t realized that running could be a social affair. So, with a friend by my side, I started running. And it was hard! (I did a lot of walking during my “running” in that first month.)

However, it was also empowering. Nothing else I have ever done in my entire life has shown me how strong I really am, or given me the confidence and life skills that running has given me. Most of all, running brought my best friends into my life and gifted me with a community that constantly challenges me to live a fuller, more adventurous, and more loving life.

I fell so in love with running that, since that first 10K in 2007, I’ve completed multiple marathons and ultra-distance triathlons. In 2011, I became a certified running coach and, a few years later, a USAT certified triathlon coach so I could share the gift of running with as many people as I possibly could.

Since 2011, I have coached hundreds of runners of all ages and abilities from “couch to 5K” all the way through to Ironman triathlon distances.

I encourage you, even if you’re scared, to step out your door and take that first step. I’ll be there with you, guiding you along the way, and cheering your every mile.
